The state says Jewish terror differs from Arab terror, claims convictions deterrent enough
The prosecution in the case of murdered Palestinian teen Mohammed Abu Khdeir who was brutally murdered by three Jewish Israelis in 2014, has indicated on Wednesday its opposition to a petition from Abu Khdeir's family to demolish the homes of his killers, the Walla! news site reports.
Abu Khdeir's murder on July 2, 2014 — wherein he was kidnapped by three Jewish Israelis, beaten, and set on fire while still alive — was deemed to be nationalistically motivated.

The Abu Khdeir family demanded that the court bring his murderers to justice "as was done with the Palestinians."
Israel has a policy of deterrence in which the homes of Palestinian terrorists who carry out attacks against Israelis are demolished, often overnight.
The prosecution claims that while all acts of terror are unacceptable, Jewish and Arab terrorism can not be treated equally, said Walla.
"Any terrorist incident is unacceptable and action must be taken to prevent it," the prosecution said, "but do not ignore the gap in the scope of acts of terrorism carried out by Palestinians and Arabs in East Jerusalem compared to those performed by Jews."
"Without minimizing the seriousness of the terrorist attack perpetrated by the murderers of Abu Khdeir and the members of the Dawabsheh family, the image trying to be painted here is that there has been a sharp increase in the number of Jewish militants [wanting to carry out attacks] which requires the demolition of houses. This not accurate to say the least," the State said, citing an affidavit from the Shin Bet security service to support the argument.
The State argued that the fact that the three killers, two minors and ringleader Yosef Chaim Ben-David, were put on trial and convicted creates enough of a deterrent from encouraging others to carry out similar attacks.
They also noted that Israeli society condemns terror acts committed, likely making an allusion to the practice by the Palestinian governments of providing financial support to the families of terrorists.
According to the report, an argument was also presented that too much time has passed since the attack, making it impossible for the Israeli Defense Forces to obtain a demolition order.
Another argument is that there is no place for the state to demolish houses murderers, for more than two years have passed since the murder. "So much of the passage of time, the IDF has no possibility of obtaining a demolition order as requested."
Hussein Abu Khdeir warned earlier this year that if his challenge to the Supreme Court failed he would bring his petition to an international court.
Yosef Haim Ben David, the stated ringleader of the group, received a life sentence plus 20 years from the Jerusalem District Court. The other two attackers, who cannot be named because they are minors, were sentenced to life in prison and 21 years, respectively.
